Madigan
Owner, The Malones

When we got Madigan, she was the cutest puppy we had ever seen and we were told by the breeder, “She has a mind of her own.” Two weeks later my husband, Michael, left on a three-week hunting trip and, to my dismay, Madigan became vicious. She turned into a “Tasmanian Devil”, repeatedly biting and drawing blood from anyone near her, including me. Needless to say, I was devastated. I feared she would have to either be destroyed or returned to the breeder.

Why I selected John at random out of the phone book to be her trainer, I'll never know. I now consider it fate. He worked with Madigan and gave me the confidence and skills necessary to turn Madigan into a wonderful companion. It was a lot of work, and there is no doubt in my mind that, had it not been for John, Madigan would not be alive today.

Madigan still has the courage and tenacity of a large dog, having no idea that she is only 10 pounds, but she is no longer aggressive with people. When people see Madigan with John, they have no doubt that she considers John to be her best friend. If you get the chance to meet her today you will find this story hard to believe because Madigan has turned into such a great dog.

Ceili
Owner, Kate Anthony

Ceili, a Shiloh Shepherd, first went to see John at 5 months of age. At that time she was afraid of strangers and would lunge and snap at them. In the three years we've been working with John and Becca, Ceili's confidence has continued to grow. She's been competing in Obedience, has earned her Beginner's Title, is working on her Intermediate, and then we try Advanced! Ceili's been tracking with enthusiasm, has let people in the house, and now is allowing people to pet her! John, who says that training is a lifelong practice, has taught me patience, and given me the opportunity to see how great my dog really is.

Skipper Parsonage
Owner, William H. Parsonage

Skipper came into our lives in late August 2003. We had been dog-less for six months having had to put down our dearly loved old dog, Mollie. As Skipper started to “grow into his paws,” Sue and I realized that our rambunctious Labrador needed to be trained and restrained, so we signed up for puppy school. Puppy school was a “start” but if Skipper was to be able to travel with us, stay in hotels, visit friends, and sail on the boat, he needed some serious training and we needed expert assistance. At the suggestions of our friend, we contacted John Jones. We have been his clients and friends ever since.

At 3 years of age, Skipper has become a wonderful pet and companion. At 85+ pounds, he is a gregarious but well-behaved dog. John and Becca’s training has really paid off. Skipper and I work out together daily and, when we are in town, we return to “doggie church” for our weekly session at their training center. The right kind of training has really made the difference. While we will never forget Mollie, Skipper has taken his own place in our hearts and our lives!

Harry
Owner, Deirdre Mandryk

The first day I met John, Harry acted in his predictable obnoxious fashion. Harry suffered from a lack of structure and training and had quickly become a problem dog, becoming an ultimate source of frustration for the family and the rest of the neighborhood. I will never forget the respect that John gave Harry; never once losing his patience with him, never rolling his eyes at the dramatic nature of a Standard Poodle, never treating Harry like anything less than a great dog. John saw more in Harry than I was able to see in my own dog.

John taught me how to train my dog and see in Harry what was always there. Harry has developed into the best dog and best friend I’ve ever had. He is more confident in himself, in me, and in the world around him. He impresses me everyday. He is no longer a source of frustration, but now a constant companion who never leaves my side. I get so much satisfaction from training when he affectionately greets guests, when I take him on an enjoyable walk without incident, or when I play with him off-leash in the backyard without ever losing his attention. People often comment that he is “a completely different dog.” He’s not a different dog, just finally himself. I owe John many thanks for Harry’s success.
